COMPREHENSIVE COURSE

A compulsory course with a scheduled class time, worth 6 credits per semester. In each of the four semesters of the “Training and Research” phase, the Comprehensive course covers a different topic.

The Comprehensive course subjects during the four semesters of the “Educational and Research” phase are:

  • Research Methodology (course coordinator: Dr. Gábor Domokos)

  • History of Building Structures (course coordinators: Dr. János Krähling, Dr. István Sajtos)

  • Informatics (course coordinators: Dr. András Árpád Sipos, Dr. Péter Várkonyi)

  • 3D Modeling: Theory and Applications
(course coordinators: Dr. András Sipos, Dr. László Strommer, Dr. Balázs Halmos)

RESEARCH PROJECT

A compulsory course in all 8 semesters of the program, without a scheduled class time. At the end of each semester, the doctoral student’s performance is evaluated and graded by their supervisor.

The subject worth in the Educational and Research phase: 12 credits per semester, in the Research and Dissertation phase: 24 credits per semester.

Representing one of the most important parts of the curriculum, the Research Project consists of credits earned through the student’s research activity, which is evaluated at the end of each semester by the supervisor and the Doctoral School. By giving research credit, the supervisor demonstrates that, by acquiring all research credit points before the end of the 4th semester, the student meets the precondition for admission to the Comprehensive Exam, and, by the end of the 8th semester, the minimum requirement for a degree is met.

PUBLICATION

A course without a scheduled class time. The minimum number of required publications is defined by the model curriculum and the requirements for applying to the complex exam. By the end of the 4th semester, students must obtain at least 16 credits

Planning the publication schedule is the doctoral student’s responsibility, and it must comply with the regulations of Code of Studies of BME (TVSZ), Doctoral and Habilitation Procedures of BME (DHSZ), and the Doctoral School. Suggested credits per semester: 4 credits in the Educational and Research phase, 6 credits in the Research and Dissertation phase.

EDUCATION UNDER GUIDANCE

An optional course without scheduled class time. The teaching assignment is determined by the student’s supervisor and/or the head of department, and its completion must be certified by the head of department.

Education under guidance (Teaching of Architectural Engineering Knowledge) is an elective course offered each semester, during which the student develops lecturing and communication skills under the guidance of an assigned instructor, using pre-prepared, well-documented teaching materials, through holding university contact hours.
The course and its associated credit value are designated — in consultation with the supervisor — by the head of the supervisor’s department, and its completion is certified by the head of department based on the assigned instructor’s recommendation.
